Event Overview: On September 10, 2024, a group of 22 students from Sikkim Government College, Namchi participated in the Youth Festival 2024, organized by the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society (SSACS). The festival was designed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to empower the youth in combating the disease. The event featured a marathon and a theme-based inter-Red Ribbon competition, among other activities.
Marathon Participation: The primary event for the students was a marathon that took place from Central Park, Namchi, to Maniram, Bhanjyang, and back. A total of 22 students from the college took part in this marathon, demonstrating exceptional endurance and team spirit. We are pleased to report that all participating students successfully completed the run, showcasing their commitment to the cause and their physical preparedness.
Achievements: In addition to the marathon, the festival included a theme-based inter-Red Ribbon competition aimed at engaging participants in creative expressions related to HIV/AIDS awareness. Abhishek Subba, a 5th Semester student from the Zoology Department, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, earned recognition by securing the 3rd prize in this competition. His achievement highlights not only his individual talent but also the college’s active engagement in promoting HIV/AIDS awareness.
Program Objectives: The Youth Festival 2024 had several key objectives:
