An Interactive Session with eminent personalities from Martin Chautari
An interactive session was organized by Sociology and Nepali Department of Sikkim Government College, Namchi Sikkim with the esteemed guests from Martin Chautari – an academic NGO based in Nepal. The report contains the proceedings of an interactive session attended by Principal- Mr Shiva Kumar Nepal, Vice Principal- Mrs Diki Ongmu Lepcha, Dean of Student Affairs- Dr Diki Bhutia and a wide group of students and faculties of different department. The idea was basically to introduce ‘Martin Chautari’, a premier academic NGO from Kathmandu, Nepal, and also its annual conference with academics of the universities and colleges of Eastern Himalaya. The speakers of the event were Dr. Lokranjan Parajuli – a historical sociologist from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Mr Devendra Uprety – researcher and co-editor in Martin Chautari publications and Mr Arjun Panthy – an independent researcher and co-editor of Nepali Magazine ka 25 Barsha.
The main speaker of the day Dr. Lokranjan Parajuli addressed the area of Himalayan history, geography, economy, society, issue of hierarchy of knowledge, connected histories and the importance of writing in regional languages. The lecture was followed by questions from faculties and students engaging in an insightful discussions. The programme commenced with the welcome speech by Mr Tilak Bardewa, Head of the Department Nepali, headed by introducing the speakers by Ms Kimla Dorjee Bhutia, Head of the Department Sociology. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Durga Prasad Sharma, Assistant Professor Nepali Department.
