Namchi. 17/04/23: Education Minister Shri. Kunga Nima Lepcha, Government of Sikkim kicked off an Inter-departmental Football Tournament at Sikkim Government College, Namchi. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Education Minister along with the Principal, Dr. Deepak Tiwari, teaching faculties, and other guests. Event was started by offering khadas to the guests by the principal, and lighting the ceremonial lamp.
In his welcome address, Principal, SGC Namchi highlighted the indispensable role that sports play in one’s lives, especially the students. He further reiterates that sports teach discipline, and focus, and helps in achieving their goal.
Chief guest Shri. Lepcha also stressed the role of sports in student’s life as he believed it helps in developing perseverance, training, and motivation. He also stated that participation in sports is more important than winning and losing. Minister also mentioned that the state government is striving towards achieving greater heights in the field of education. He also mentioned that the state government has given the topmost priority to the education and health sector. He also stated that In the form of excursions, the state government is helping students gain knowledge and ideas from other states too. In his concluding remark, he wished the students for progress, goodwill, and success in their lives.
Earlier in the day Minister visited the various infrastructures in the college and he also inspected the newly constructed science block building. The inaugural match was played between the English and Lepcha departments where the former won on penalty shootout upon playing a draw in their full-time. The tournament will continue with each day playing two to three knockout matches and the final will be played on 28/04/2023.
