Session on community policing

Namchi, 2/12/22: Sikkim Government College, Namchi hosted an event today on Community Policing for the students. The programme was graced by the principal Dr. Deepak Tiwari, the Vice-Principle, the Dean, and other faculty members of the college. The resource persons for the event were Mr. Akshay Sachdeva, Special Director General of Police, Mr. Manish Verma, SP, Namchi, and Ms. Dawa L Pakhrin, SHO, Namchi Police Station.

Ms. Dawa L Pakhrin, SHO, Namchi PS introduced the theme of the session, and Mr. Manish Verma, SP, Namchi welcomed and introduced the key speaker Mr. Akshay Sachdeva, Special Director General of Police. Mr. Sachdeva engaged the participants in an enthralling session where he explained how the community and the police must work together on mitigating various legal issues in society. He also discussed various issues that encourage crimes at different levels and how one’s ignorance also engenders criminal activities unintentionally. Sachdeva also sought feedback on Sikkim Police from the faculties and students.

During the interactive session, on the question of the attitude of police being harsh to common people, Sachdeva explained that due to constant encounters with criminals they are bound to behave in such a manner. In the end, he encouraged the students and the Namchi Police team to participate in small skits to better demonstrate the relationship between the public and the police.

In his concluding remark put forth by SDPO, Namchi, briefed on the importance of  community policing workshops for both the community and the police department in building the bridge between the police and the public.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Das, Assistant Professor, on behalf of the college expressed his gratitude to the entire visiting team for sharing pertinent knowledge with the students and faculty members of the college.
